Week 4 Assignment: Record a video response through Flipgrid

Due date: Saturday, 5/9/2020

When learning a language, you should be able to listen, read, speak, write and type.  In previous weeks, when we watched videos to review the numbers and dialogues, you practiced your listening and reading skills. When you had handwritten work, you practiced your writing skill.  Last week, you learned how to type Chinese characters and I hope you gained a new typing skill.  Therefore, now it's time for you to show me your speaking skills.  That's why we are going to learn how to record a video using Flipgrid this week. Using Flipgrid, you will not need to upload your video or send it to me through email.

You will need a flip-code to enter my 5th Grade grid to post your video response and you will be find the flip-code in Google Classroom.
If you haven't connected to Google Classroom, here is the class code: irdroxg

I recorded a video to show you step by step how to record a response in Flipgrid:
You need to say the following two sentences in Mandarin when you record your video response:

1. 我叫 / Wǒ jiào ______。(My name is_____.)
2. 我____岁。/ Wǒ____suì。(I am ____ years old.)

You could say your name in English, but please make sure the number of your age in Mandarin.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment in Google Classroom or send me an email: [email protected]

If you have any questions about this assignment or just want to say hi, please join my video conference at 12:00PM on Tuesday, 05/05/2020. I will post the link in Google Classroom 5 minute before 12:00PM on Tuesday.

Due:

Week 3 Assignment: How to type Chinese characters

Due date: Saturday, 5/2/2020

Hi everyone, we are going to learn how to type Chinese characters this week.  Nowadays, it's not enough that we only know how to speak and write Chinese.  With all the technologies that we have, it's very important to also know how to type Chinese.  However, I noticed that many students don’t have chances to learn how to type Chinese yet.  Therefore, I recorded the following video and it will guide you through the process:

Since there were NOT many of you have turned in the assignment last week, or the work that you turned in was not in Chinese characters, this week you need to type out what we learned last week: date and Name and age asking dialogues in Chinese.  If you already type the assignment last week, and you got a grade higher than 90, you are DONE with this week’s assignment. You don’t need to do it in again. If you turned in a handwriting work last week, you NEED to type it this week.

Name asking:

Q: 你叫什么名字? / Nǐ jiào shén me míng zì (What is your name?)

A: 我叫 / Wǒ jiào _____。(My name is_____.)

Asking Age:

Q: 你几岁? / Nǐ jǐ suì (How old are you?)

A: 我___岁 / Wǒ____suì。(I am __ years old.)

Next, we are going to review how to tell date in Mandarin. Watch the follow videos:

To sum it up:

/Yuè means month, /Rì means day. 星期/Xīng qí means week,

Example: May 25 is 二十五星期一 is Monday, 星期四 is Thursday.  The exception is Sunday, it is 星期日, NOT 星期七

Assignment for this week:

Since this week’s assignment is to learn how to type Chinese characters, so everyone need to type out the assignment. NO handwriting. Sorry.  :(

First, you type the date that you work on this assignment, use this format: "__________星期_____", then type the two dialogues above by filling in the blanks with your name and your age. Click the example for your reference.

How do you do it: you go to Arch Chinese to type by using Chinese pronunciation, and then copy to the google docs that I attached in Google Classroom.  For example: You could type "yue" for month, then choose "月” from the list.

If you have any questions about this assignment or how to type Chinese, please join my video conference at 12:00PM on Tuesday, 04/28/2020.  I will post the link in Google Classroom 5 minute before 12:00PM on Tuesday.
